Anti-Wrinkle Treatments

Lines and furrows are a natural result of a life of stress and sun exposure. Aging is a complex process. It isn’t just about cellular changes, collagen depletion, hormone loss, damage caused by free radicals, and so on; it’s a combination of many factors. So what are these factors and what can be done to reverse existing damage?

How Wrinkles Form

The wrinkles that appear between the eyebrows (glabellar lines) result from muscular movement and the passage of time. Emotions are translated into muscular action. Anger or annoyance, for example, will result in visible knitting together of the brows. As facial muscles contract, pleating of the overlying skin is experienced, resulting in a frown.

After years of contraction and wrinkling, glabellar lines will linger longer and become more pronounced. For women, whose faces tend to be more animated than men’s, and whose skin is typically more delicate, these lines may appear exaggerated and more permanent.

Anti-Wrinkle Injections with BOTOX has been successfully used for many years to temporarily reduce moderate to severe glabellar wrinkles. Results include a visible smoothening and softening of moderate to severe wrinkles. An improvement can be seen within days and may last up to 4 months, although results may vary. In clinical trials, nearly 90% of men and women surveyed rated the improvement in the appearance of frown lines between their brows as moderate to better 1 month after treatment.

What is BOTOX®?

BOTOX® is a purified protein produced by the Clostridium botulinum bacterium, which reduces the activity of the muscles that cause frown lines between the brows to form over time. The use of BOTOX® is not a new science. In 2005, it was recorded that almost 3.3 million procedures were performed with FDA-approved BOTOX® Cosmetic.
The administration of BOTOX® is non-surgical. It is an aesthetic treatment that can temporarily reduce the appearance of moderate to severe frown lines for up to 4 months. Results are visible within days. Injections with BOTOX® can be performed safely up to every 4 months. If treatment is discontinued, facial frown lines will gradually revert to their appearance prior to treatment.

BOTOX® has clinically been found to be unsuitable for those who:
  • have an infection where BOTOX® Cosmetic will be injected
  • are allergic to any of the ingredients in BOTOX® Cosmetic
  • Are pregnant or think you might be pregnant

It is recommended that all medical intervention be supervised by a qualified medical professional. The decision to have BOTOX® treatment should be taken only after consultation and examination by a doctor.

The administering doctor must be informed if the patient:
  • Have any diseases that affect your nerves and muscles. These diseases may increase the chance of side effects with BOTOX® treatment
  • is breastfeeding
  • Is planning to become pregnant soon

If any of the above criteria are met, medical evidence suggests that the patient may not be a suitable candidate for treatment with BOTOX.
BOTOX® is proven to create a marked improvement in moderate to severe frown lines between the brows. BOTOX® however, will not cause a radical change in the facial appearance of a patient. The ability to frown or look surprised is preserved but wrinkling and creasing will no longer be possible between the brows.

As with any medical procedure, treatment with BOTOX® should only be undertaken after consultation with a doctor. Precision Skin is a fully licensed BOTOX® administration centre and appointments for medical consultation can be made by calling 01-2108661.
